Nor did Igor The Eyesore, a 73 164E parts car I bought (Rest In Pieces..) 73 and 74 models basically use the 240 1975-93 HVAC box anyway, so spares aren't hard to find.
Just for completeness, thought I'd add that 164E B30E engines use the same electronic sensors, fuel injectors, valves, valve springs, pistons, main and big end bearings, rear main oil seals, timing case crank seals,, and cam bearings as the B20 engines of the same year. Metal timing gears, if not already fitted, are the same as used in the B20 4-pot engine too and are highly recommended,
Some of the less obvious unique to B30 engine components include the timing case cover and seal, bellhousing, flexplate or flywheel, oil pump, and harmonic balancer.
The B230 starter motor is the same as MOST 4 cylinder Volvo engines - ie B18 / B20 / B21/ B23/ B230 / B234.
Headlights are the same as 240 from 75 to 78.
Body panels from the windscreen back are similar or the same as the 240 from 75 to 78.
Autos in 164s are the BW35, which have been around since grand-dad wore nappies.
Windscreen glass is the same as any 140 or 240 - if you're changing it, tell the glass fitter it's a screen for a 1993 Volvo 240 and they'll fit the modern seal version, not the horrible ancient metal-clip-and-butyl rust-inducing mess. You'll lose the shiny dirt-collecting rust-makers from around the windscreen by doing it this way though. Opinions differ about doing this, but I choose being practical and preserving the car rather than replacing messy, rust-inducing components with more rust-inducing components.
73 and 74 bumpers are the same as the 140 of the same year model; if you need to replace one, just drill holes to fit the parking/ indicator lights in a 140 bar. 72 and earlier models have unique (curved) front bumpers.
Many spares are still available via CVI, VP Autoparts, or GCP.se (Mother Volvo's supplier for classic bricks), as well as many other sources listed in our trusty Oz Volvo
Volvo Parts/Spares Directory thread.
Buying parts from Australian Volvo dealers is how to end up with a small fortune... but to do this, you must start with a very
large fortune.
