It's all good for us if he's sold at that price though.

His paint is not too bad for original, although in one pic he looks like the same shade of yellow as
@jamesinc used on Betsy.

A phone call to the seller confirmed and revealed...
RR 1/4 has rust repair and lovely off colour reminder.
Surface rust on RR roof sill.
Nasty little "ouch" in the top right rear near the bootlid.
Speedo not working. Dash is cracked of course. Seat trim front and rear needs replacing, that's a definite.
No recent history from previous 20 odd years to indicate real mileage or condition. It's an old car.
Current owner purchased only a few months ago from QLD, then bought an earlier 142, so selling this one.
No room for movement by the seller on price, that's his prerogative.

One Volvo I have always wanted has been a '74 142 but even I think that is overpriced for what it is.
Chris
You've got to look at the end cost. Mechanical repairs are all very well, but trim and body are big $ unless you are so skilled you can DIY (or have a mate). So in the end while it looks pretty good, any serious resto is going to take it way over what it is worth. Hence, yes, it is overpriced.

So the cars you've replaced your volvos with are so much better they are worth more than 3 grand after 40 years, with a running engine etc.... Wow.
Garth
As there are less and less of these cars the price will likely get higher too

Provided there are potential owners prepared to lift the standard of the current crop, as well as purchasers who see the value in driving and ownership.
Rarity does not ensure a higher value, one does not naturally follow the other. Desirability is often the driver.

What a beautiful old thing. Someone save it!
bigal
and looks like Dulon Wattle.
deleted_user_1622
It's saving would more likely be pushed forward by a motivated seller, rather than his description as being happy to hang onto it, which may well be the outcome at the conclusion of the "auction".
Money, money, money, eh.
Were it here, in Tassie, it would be a consideration.
Colour could well be Dulon Wattle, it's an Aussie assembled car.
paul0075
Considering the $1800 I paid for the Jaffa with it's good condition body and interior, I'd pay no more than that for this particular 140. It's going to need another 3 or 4k poured into it, which is what I ended up doing with the 144, and it was running and tidier than many cars half its age.
deleted_user_1622
Sounds realistic, though the body and interior of this one isn't near "good", down the scale a little as "average" seems more accurate.
Paul, you were fortunate indeed to find a 142 with good body and interior for $1800.

What are you on about?

You need a set bigal. It would look good next to a dark green one two.
bigal
no money.. :-(
1971_144GL
We better sell the green one then .... Then again if we had matching colour Volvo's it might get weird. I do like that colour. Says 1970s very beautifully. Perhaps a spare parts sale.
