I have a 2011 T6 V70 - its making noise under load and at this stage it appears that the diff has gone. A local diff and gearbox bloke feels its crown wheel pinion related rather than bearings. The bloody (insert much swearing) thing has only done 75K.
So the retail quote for a diff is $6119 imported from Sweden (plus fitting) . And they tell me you cant get spares to rebuild them.
Any ideas ? Any one got a good second hand one or no where I might get one. Its a great car but ....
Hi All
I have XC70 2009 D5 and have had same noise last 6 months thinking it was bearings, but had friend mechanic go for drive in car and said no bearings are fine, it's diff as it only makes noise on throttle under-load.
It's louder with full tank off fuel and 3 kids in back.
60km/hr or 80km/hr I find it's the loudest wining and drone.
Off throttle or down hill is as quite as new Volvo at any speeds.
So I feel relieved now reading this that I'm 100% certain that it's now the diff.
It's starting to get louder to point of I have to fix it.
Geoff from McNamaras said they have a crap bearing system. He reckons the crown wheel and pinion were perfectly fine. So chances are it's only bearings. I did note in my search there is a bloke in Sydney who says he can do them. Can't remember who but a decent Google search should dig him up.
