Hi peeps,
First off, I have thing for keeping any body panels unmodified. With that in mind, I thought I could fit 6x9 speakers on the parcel shelf by raising the mounting surface up with mdf spacers. Anyway, it didn't work out - should have listened to the many many threads already covering this.
For the next part, audiophiles and the like, take a deep breath.
I then thought of using a mdf board and making a shelf under the parcel shelf (refer pictures below). No, it's not ideal, but these speakers just provide rear fill and some bass. This would be held up by bolts through the holes already there, as well as using the rear seat belt retractor bolts. To expand, get longer bolts for the seat belt retractors and secure them as normal, but use nuts on the underside to hold up the board.
Now for my question. Would this be too heavy for the parcel shelf? At most its probably 5kg max. Also, would this void any insurance in a crash? i.e. tampering with seat belts, too much strain on a component not engineered to withstand that weight.
Thanks,
Jeremy
