G'day ,
I'm trying to install a new head and do the belts on my 240. My crank position sensor failed and then I blew a front seal.
I want to have my wagon back on the road so I can go to the nationals meet.
Does anybody in Sydney have the crank /timing belt removal tool?
I can offer beer as payment.
I am going to try the rope method but I'm a newbie and am pretty worried about stuffing something up.
I live in Ryde and work in Moore Park.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. I was going to try the screwdriver in the fly wheel method but it looks difficult.

Kick the starter is another option

Rope method is fine - if you're concerned, I'm happy to give you a hand.

How do you maintain TDC with out moving from the markings on the camshaft, crank and dizzy.
I want to drop a new head on it and I'm worried if things shift about too much I may stuff things up.

It's a non interference engine so you can move them around without metal hitting metal. Just align everything again when you put the timing belt back on.

Cheers James and Ginger ninja ,aaahhhh.........it all makes sense now, why everything I read people seemed not too concerned about moving from the TDC marks. I really want to come to the nationals for a least one of the days if I get the wagon up and running. Thanks again ....and I will be trying the rope method tomorrow.

I'm free on both tuesday and wednesday evenings and happy to lend a hand for a few hours

Thanks James ,Ginger and Philia Bear,
I tried the rope method this morning and it was a roaring success. It would be more accurate to call it the "thick string method" LOL.
I added my own trick to the method. I found it difficult to feed the rope in so I cut a small piece of tube that was small enough to fit in the spark plug hole but with enough inner diameter that could still feed the rope through it. the tube had a slight curve and it was about 10 centimeters long .Worked really well.
So keen to get it back together.
Any tips for installing my new head ?
** how should I "run it in" ?
Thanks again , greatly appreciated...Not just because I did the job but for the gaining of knowledge .
4 days till nationals hope I will make it...should,fingers crossed.

Run at 2000 RPM for half an hour, that'll do it.

Just to wrap up my head installation.
I did finish on Sunday, unfortunately at about 1.30pm and good results except I had to go back and re-sit the cam belt . It was just cog off in alignment and the car was sluggish. That's fixed now and she is running really strong.
Thank again for your offers of help.
I have another slight problem that I will start a new thread for.
