Howdy,
My 1993 240 wagon doesn't have a cold start injector but my 91 240 does.
The 91 starts first time every time and it's something I like to demonstrate to the "non-believers' and infidels when they look sideways at my beauties as it kicks over first time while I have both feet on the ground.
Do I need the cold start injector ?
Is it better to have it ?
Does the extra strain of cranking over a couple of times cause harm to the motor (B230fx btw ) ?
My 93 is not hard to start, it just turns over about three times but my 91 bangs over straight away.
Cheers

Cold start not used unless below -10c on lh2.4 from memory
More likely the fpr ans the fuel pump check valve on the 93 need replacing

This. My LH2.4 swapped 245 starts after half a crank everytime and has no cold start. Good line pressure is what matters.

Awesome...Thanks Philia Bear and Black Dynamite..Another little job to keep me busy.
I'm thinking of getting a bumper sticker.." My Volvo, like marriage is an ongoing project but I still love it "
Cheers
P.S. My momma says Black Dynamite is my daddy's name............

Cold start injectors are an older technology that got phased out by most car makers in the late '80's to early '90's, cars newer than that still have a cold start strategy, they increase the duty cycle of the injectors to add more fuel when starting and when the car is warming up.
As ECU technology improved, they could calculate the required duty cycle more accurately and control that duty cycle more accurately as well, so the cold start injector became redundant.
If the cranking time is excessive, I would first try cleaning the throttle body and idle valve, particularly if it starts faster if you give it a little bit of throttle when cranking.
If that doesn't help, it may be the fuel pump check valve as mentioned above, particularly if the long cranking seems to be worse the longer the car sits between starts.
