With the arrival of my recent 1971 142 purchase from Adelaide, I now see that I will need to carry out some restoration for it to be registered [in N.S.W.]. Some minor rust probems, but certainly repairable. My first drive, mechanically it was very good, comfort wise - uncomfortable.
I couldn't get the drivers seat to go back far enough.[Mind you, my stomach has gotten a little bigger since my last 142.] I think that it is as back as far as it will go. Is there a way to reposition the tracking so that the seat slides back a little further?
Secondly, the back of the seat is a leaning back further than is comfortable. I thought that this was adjustable by moving that big silver lever at the side of the seat. But this one doesn't do anything. Am I wrong? Is the seat recline-able?
Thirdly, it doesn't have retractable seat belts. Does anyone know where I can have these [hideous] static belts replaced [Sydney area] and is there a second hand alternative?
This may be sacrilege, but, if the seats are beyond repair in the 142, can they be replaced with ones from a 242??
Looking forward to your imput
Cheers

You can unbolt the seats to put it to its furthest back position. 240 would go right in but so would basically any other seat belt conversion kit and they are pretty cheap. There is a lever to flip forward the chair for back seat access and one lower down to do the back rest.

Thanks for that information. Re the seat belts, I rang one company here is Sydney and they said somewhere between $350 and $385 per seat belt. A little steep I thought.
The lever to flip the seat forward is working fine. It's the big [ish] chrome handle at the side of the seat, which rotates left of right, that I thought allowed you to recline the seat. That appears to not be working.
