G'day'
I'm trying to change the transmission oil filter in my 240.
The trans filler tube nut that connects to the pan needs to be loosened off.
I've contemplated un-bolting the filler tube from the block but that looks as if it my be more trouble than it's worth.
I've tried wd-40 soaking, muscle power and finally heating the nut with a heat-gun ( no oxy ) to heat the nut.
It will not budge.
Any suggestions before I take it to mechanic and ,embarrassingly, ask them to loosen it off for me.
Heeeeelp
Cheers Rabbitt.

Check out the Brickboard 700/900 FAQ. There is a whole section on that fastener. I swear it was designed by Beelzebub himself.
Mine was so hard to get off I destroyed the tube end in the process, and it had cold welded about 2 threads inside the nut that came out with it. It looks very much like someone had it off and had cross threaded it putting it back. I managed to get a new tube from Volvo ($120 later) as the local wrecker had no serviceable units.
Due to the nut being damaged I could never get enough torque on it to seal properly without risk of tearing out what little thread was left, so I made up a flare washer out of annealed 1/2" copper tube and that sealed it up nicely.

You need a longer spanner and a hammer
Just be prepared to have to replace the pan

Apparently "inox" is the stuff to use.

I tried Inox, WD40, CRC, Freezer spray, Oxy torch, MAPP torch, ATF/Acetone... the only thing that worked was a pair of 12" crescent spanners. One to back up the nut on the pan and the other for me to swing off and ultimately supplement with an extra 2' of water pipe to get it to move.

I have no issues, an adjustable spanner on the pan side and 24mm spanner iirc on the nut side... Even on my back its not bad. Though I have the one on my daily now cut above the oil level and joined with a rubber hose, I also take my pan off every 10k. It happens with modified autos and engines and my paranoia about wear.
