Another question regarding the project car we have acquired for my son.
The car has just one key. Will a MisterMinit type key cutter, or Bunnings, have these key blanks? Or do I need to go to a locksmith for these? (it is just a straight key - no electronics.)

i'm a little bit bias but those key cutting places are rubbish imo. Locksmith will maybe be an extra dollar or two but will do a proper job, plus can cut to code which means the new key will be exactly correct instead of just a copy of the worn original

Tend to agree Locksmith a better option for a quality job. I'm guessing a good locksmith will have the right blanks in stock? Do they get the key code from the VIN?

yep, volvo used a fairly standard blank. Code may be on the original key, or in the manual/log book (if you have one), don't think many places can pull it from the vin other than dealers though

The ones that duplicate the tyre key are pretty good in my experience!

Our locksmith up here has a computer loaded with the key codes, he'll sight the worn key up against the screen and select the closest match, and then tell it to cut.
Worked perfectly on our Toyota, cost about $8 a key.
