sukiminh Hey I had my 240 sedan 1981 fitted with a new muffler exhaust system major service and now when I go up hills it's struggles to sit on 40 kms per hour and if it's a steep hill forget it I can walk faster No oil leaks no over consumption of fuel just drives like its being held back runs great on the flat Any ideas it's my everyday drive help please!
240Joe Did you put a larger diameter exhaust system on? Or change to a single muffler? I had a similar issue on one of my 240s when I got a new exhaust with just one straight through muffler, it lacked back pressure.
sukiminh It's a single muffler..I'm going to ring the mechanic Monday..hopefully I can get it sorted as it drove much better before the new exhaust but it was obviously worn out as the petrol smell inside was unbearable..thank you
240Joe I put another muffler on and it fixed the problem. I have a 2.25" system. If yours is also 2.25" I'd recommend doing the same.
sukiminh Oh ok thanks for that i hope the mechanic does this for me when I speak to him he should know if I mention this I'm hoping as It can be difficult being female talking to the mechanic to be taken seriously and I only know limited stuff about engines and the workings of cars but am learning ..I love my volvos want to keep them on the road..I appreciate your info.. Rita
Philia_Bear Since your in Newcastle @Slowbrick might be able to help you with the diagnosis Could be something simple and stupid like the in tank kjet pump fuse
A_Volvo_Driver Ryan @Slowbrick is local to you, he might be able to assist. These things are usually easier to diagnose in person. Welcome to the forum :)
Slowbrick With Kjet its very particular about the fuel pressure. If the problem is only happening when you are going up a hill then I would be looking at the intank pump before anything else. Changing the exhaust should not have such a profound effect on the car to the point it makes it nearly undrivable. Our 245 on Kjet ran better than it ever had with the 2.5 inch exhaust on it. I would be looking at a fuelling issue before the exhaust. You also mentioned it had a major service. What items were changed? Plugs? Leads? Fuel filter? There are too many variables to just point to the exhaust. Where in Newcastle are you?
