Hi Guys,
I'm a new Volvo owner and have just ran into my first hiccup...
I recently purchased a 2000 S80 T6
It dropped a cylinder a couple days ago after some testing i discovered it was the coil pack (ignition coil) on cylinder 2.
After replacing the faulty coil pack engine was running smooth again. took it for a short drive <10km and the engine started playing up again... poor performance rough idle etc, after more testing (moving coil packs between cylinders) i discovered a different coil pack has now failed, position 1.
What are the chances this is a coincidence?
The previous owner said the battery wasn't big enough for the car, I have now replaced it with a new battery, any chance this was a contributing factor?
Any suggestions on what else i should be looking into?
Thanks,
Joel

Hey Joel it's not uncommon at all and you will eventually be replacing all 5.

Thanks for the quick response Tim.
While looking through the engine bay last night it looks like the alternator has recently been replaced as well... a clue perhaps?
I really want to believe its a coincidence but I'm still hesitant to replace another one, they are costing me around $140 a pop.
On that note, anyone know where I could get some cheap replacements?
Thanks

The coils are known consumable item

I will keep replacing then.

You can get cheapies off ebay that will last a couple of years. We rarely fit genuine ones at our shop and also sell the aftermarket ones we keep in stock to the local dealership. Where are you located? You could see Berry Motors for cheaper coils if your in/around melbourne

In in Adelaide... might have to check ebay then.

Every modern car with coils like that has issies similar. Just some cars are more common so replacement is cheaper.
