kielrh Looking at purchasing the above, don't know a great deal about the car itself. It has done a touch over 147kms with the original purchase receipt. Runs nicely and paint looks in good shape. Can anyone help me out with a) is it worth buying b) what should I look for Thanks, kiel.
egads Great cars, fun to drive and easy to work on. Here is a really good guide on what to look for: http://www.volvotips.com/index.php/140-164/140-164-buyers-guide/ Also, welcome!
Major Ledfoot (a) Definitely work buying IMO. (b) Look for - - rust (of course) particularly around the tail end of the rear wheel arches, the 'buttcheeks' in the boot, the bottom of the 'B' pillar between the doors, and examine carefully the inside top of the front wheel arches if there are rust bubbles around the windscreen surround. - excessive play in the steering box, meaning someone has been over-zealous with adjusting the nut on top of the box . Compared to modern cars, 140s have rather heavy steering, so that is normal. - If it's a 1973 (144xxxxYnnnnnn) the speedo should be in mph, not km/h unless it's been changed. 147,000 miles on a 140 is just run-in. ;-) (reason for edit: 1973 year code is Y, not A)
kielrh @bgpzfm142 Thank you! The buyers guide has mentioned most of that. It's great to know short hand though! Sorry, I just converted it automatically. It's a touch over 91xxx miles... Also, where is the best place to find parts for the 140 series?
Major Ledfoot It depends which parts you're after. The OzVolvo Volvo Parts/Spares Directory is a good place to start.
egads I have a pretty big stash of random 140 bits also and there of plenty of others around with bits stashed away. And Sweden. All the Sweden.
