Hi all,
Purchased a 760 Turbo from mark which was the one he purchased of eBay a month or so ago, to be honest, needs shit loads of work, as it's been sitting for 15 years...., undriven obviously for all those years it's developed some " interesting " features...., I drove it today, ran and drove great apart from a certain issue involving backfiring, smoke and exhaust flames which I'm going to rename to fun flames as I was absolutely pissing myself laughing as drivers and passengers behind me covered their face as they saw the backfire flame and heard the pop....,
I'll post some pics in the next 6 mins.

Cool that you got the UK plates with it!

Cosmetic wise it needs new rims....

Yep too true @Ghettobird , mark wanted one plate back so I've only got the front one now ;)

So first thing I did to the rear is put a decor panel on as it was looking plain with no number plate on it.

Wow! these are rare beasts indeed. From the Volvo confusing naming era, right? So even though it says 760, it's really a 4-pot turbo? Should be good fun to drive - apparently they handle amazingly?
Out of interest, roughly how much did it cost to ship it UK to Aus?
Vee_Que
They never stopped being confusing names Rico. Its when it started. They did sell them as a v6 from release too. But the turbo is faster. In the day the handled good against the Merc e class. But the 5 series was better.
Neither Mark or Darcy imported the car but if you contact @pom privately he can tell you as he imported a 480
lasercowboy
Cool! Thanks. If I can't find a decent 240 wagon soon, I guess i might consider it, as I could import it in manual... but i'm guessing it's not cheap! anyway, sorry for going off-topic... :D
Vee_Que
not really worth it. They Will all need rust reparS. Converting to manual is cheaper than rust repairs.

Why bother importing a 7 turbo when they are a dime a dozen here.
And lots of quality 2's around for next to nothing.
lasercowboy
The 7s are comparatively rare (I've never seen a 760 in Oz).
If you can find a late model 240 wagon (in manual, but will consider converting a good auto) then I'll owe you a slab!
markc88
@lasercowboy it costs about gbp1800 to move a car from uk to Perth......then about same again to move it 500 meters after paying the mua and goverment fees! Current exchange rates about $7k in total.
lasercowboy
wowzers.. so you really gotta want to! i'd consider it if I could find my original 240 in the uk, but otherwise isn't even close to making sense for a 240.
markc88
There is a white manual 240 for sale on gumtree in Perth that looks pretty good @lasercowboy
lasercowboy
the one in Midland? That would be perfect were it not a sedan. Wagon is vital for me (more so than gearbox, which can be converted...) But they are still about, so I remain ever hopeful!

@lasercowboy I believe some one just posted up one really recently.
It's not hard to find. It's a simple web search away. It only gets difficult when you are looking for something very specific.
Car sales or car domain would show easily 50 results aus wide.
2series gearbox conversation is relatively easy. Especially compared to 7/9
lasercowboy
Currently only 15 2xx and 7xx series Aus wide on carsales. But yes, there are a few out there.
I am looking for something fairly specific, but prepared to be flexible on some bits - as you point out, the auto-manual conversion on a 2 series is not a deal breaker.
