GingerNinja I had the a/c repaired in my '88 240 a bit over a year ago but it's out of gas again and I'm thinking about taking it out while I've got the engine out. Any tips? Can you still get brackets for mounting the power steering pump where the compressor used to be? What length belt do you need to run it?
Samman88 Hi, I have removed mine in my 1991 240 wagon. This was partly to fit an intercooler / it didn't work anyway / couldn't afford to fix it / taking up weight and space. To answer your question, you can get a really nice cnc A/C delete bracket from a guy on Turbopricks. His name is something like 77turbo245 and it was going to cost me ~150 usd with shipping. My tips would be as follows; Think about it before you take it out (I have pangs of regret every now and then on hot days) Don't sawzall it out if there is still fluid in it as the fluid is kryptonite for the environment. And regassing joints only charge like 20$ to take it out. The bloke who does the cnc brackets actually does a pretty good job of it so imho probably worth his asking (I think he even did fea on it) In saying that I'm not affiliated and have never bought from him him. Good luck! Keep us posted on how you go.
GingerNinja Thanks for that. That's exactly what I'm after and he seems happy to post. I do like having a/c when it works but the system in my 240 is only ok when it does work. I'm in Hobart so it's only really needed for one week a year. It is good for defogging the windows though.
A_Volvo_Driver Please let me know the total cost when you get it. I will most likely need to do the same. Do we need a different belt for the power steering?
GingerNinja From the thread he says 'The belt size is 7350.GAT its a gates belt' http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=271496&page=1
volvodriverman I've likely got the factory ac delete bracket lurking somewhere, let me check tomoz...
