Rob Apparently the 264 fitted with B27 or B28 had a vacuum pump for the brake booster? spomething like this? can anyone confirm or deny this?
egads Country wise maybe a US thing too? Might have lowered/tricked emissions testing that kicked in in California.
Angus242164 The US got them on a couple of mid '70's models, we only got it on the B27 and possibly also B28 260's. They may have been worried about insufficient vacuum to the booster under some situations I guess. The diaphragms inside were notorious for failing, they were often removed and the hole blanked, or the hoses were just bypassed. My father once made a new diaphragm for one out of a piece of truck tyre inner tube, it lasted for a few years like that.
Vee_Que My 82 and all 760s I've seen didn't have one. Cams are the same on the 27 and 28 so if they decided it wasn't needed later and it doesn't look like your motor has it. Not worth worrying about.
Anthony The 760 diesel turbo versions have one / need one. Years ago a fellow imported a 760 diesel turbol 1/2 cut for the Arab emirates in order to get the engine and bits. The engines used by Volvo were actually a VW diesel.
