Hi everyone, I have to get a new (or used) rear differential for my 2009 XC60 and I was wondering how much this would cost me? Hope someone can help.
Philia_Bear
What did you do to it that it needs replacing?

Noise from rear diff above 70 kph. Local Volvo dealer says it needs replacing. Quoted $6900 for a new unit or $4700 for second hand diff. The car is off to an independent differential specialist for another quote tomorrow. he could not believe the quotes......... Stay tuned.

Either tyres or a bearing
max cost should be sub $1000 either way
More likely tyres then anything else

Not tyres. had new set fitted 4 mths ago. Shall see tomorrow........

I have replaced a LH rear wheel bearing on an XC60 for the same issue. We were reluctant to replace the bearing as it sounded like tyre noise, but the tyres were new. Sandwood trading can supply the bearings for under $400,and according to them its common. It takes half an hour to fit. Don't let the local dealer touch your car anymore they sound like muppets.

Lol, does sound like they are diagnosing via vadis rather than via vadis and brain combined :-P

Can you mention which dealer is giving you the above advice?
Also assume your car is out of warranty...
Vee_Que
Cheap Chinese tyres WILL cause noise excessively though.

Dropped the XC60 off at an independent Diff specialist this morning and he can fix it for around $1500 or so. When I told him I was quoted $4700 for a 2nd had diff he nearly choked on his coffee. More news next week...Stay tuned.

Rear diff all fixed by an independent diff specialist. Still cost $2900. Better than $7,000 quoted by the Volvo dealership...Whom I will never give my business to again.......

New bearings and new rnp?
Tzantushka
Expensive, but glad it worked out!

New bearings and a seal kit.. It was the labour that was the killer.
