OldnDecrepit Just wanting to know how to go about testing the electric condenser fan in my 740? I've never heard it running that I recall but the primary thermatic fan makes so much noise maybe that's normal. Maybe, if the primary is doing its job, it never comes on? Is there a simple procedure?
OldnDecrepit Sorted it out. For anyone's future reference there is a plug behind the grill (drivers' side in my 1990 740 GLE) which has the leads for the fan. Unplug and run a +ve and a -ve to the two wires that lead to the fan. I just used a set of jumper leads. Fan ran fine so it looks like mine works but I've never seen or heard it on even when I have left the car running with the ac on.
Vee_Que The stock fan isnt that loud over the electric one running imo. But the stock wiring for it isn't very Australian. Its switched off the temp sensor on radiator. I re wired mine to be signalled off my power in on the ac receiver dryer switch. We need it on all the time to make cold air in Australia
OldnDecrepit My supplementary pusher fan isn't on when the ac is running, that's why I wanted to test that it works.
egads Wiring it in as Alex suggested is what you want to do then. Noticeable difference to cool and stability of cool.
OldnDecrepit If it's running all the time when the ac is on, won't that burn out the fan motor prematurely?
egads It will probably burn out quicker than it would have but you will be icy cool and replacements are not expensive.
OldnDecrepit Well the ac is pretty good now but where do I alter the wiring to make it run when the ac is running.
