henrivolvo I have a bit of play in my alloy housing power steering rack (240 1991). Is this easy to repair myself or is it a matter of pulling it out and getting it fixed?
perko Depends where the play is, the racks themselves are fairly solid, is it possibly one of the ball joints? The racks can be serviced, depends on your skill level and what the actual issue is as to if you can do it yourself
Major Ledfoot Anthony Hyde's guide to steering racks is invaluable too. people.physics.anu.edu.au/~amh110/STEERING/steering_camgears_trw.htm
Anthony All Active Power Steering in Sydney are experts in Camgear & TRW racks and have the correct kits to rebuilt yours in a 24 hr service. I've had 3 racks done over the years, including 2 pwr steer pumps (the little TC Saginaw volvo type) that were rough in the bearing when cold. Recommended. Refurbed racks operated as good as new, oh what a feeling! They have agents in most areas, not sure about Vic though. Anthony Hyde
