Can anyone recommend a tow bar for a 940 sedan? It will be used mainly for carrying a bicycle rack and maybe, occasionally a trailer.
Ideally I'd like one that does not require cutting of the lower part of the bumper to fit.
Thanks

Sadly you will need to do a bit of trimming for the lower half of the bumper. New cars still have that happen so it's not a big deal.
There is only one style I've seen and I think itsthe as a 7 series one. Where are you located?

I'm halfway between Brisbane and Sunshine Coast. I've seen most new cars have a cap that can be removed for fitting a towbar so no cutting is needed though.
I searched the Hayman Reese site and they list the same towbar for 700 and 900 series. That doesn't account for the deeper bumper on the 940 sedan. I can understand them not wanting to re-design a towbar for one specific model.

A bike rack that clips and hangs onto the back of a car may be a cheaper option if you dont need a towbar.
Look on facebook bicycle sell swap sites local to you , they come up now and again , saw one recently here.
Or just buy from China.

I was wondering about those clip on racks. My main concern was rubbing of the car's paint at the contact points. Yes I'm a fastidious so&so...
Has anyone used one on a Volvo sedan?

They have cutouts. Not all. But most do cut away at the bumper to even have the sqaure drawbar. You won't get one of them for yours. The deeper bumper isn't that deep either. Factory volvo Australia ones are hayman reece with a volvo branding on them.

The genuine Volvo 900 sedan bar dosnt need any trimming
Its a flat tongue though, rather than a receiver style

I have a Volvo/Hayman Reese towbar from a 700 that I'd consider selling, it's a bolt on flat tongue style rather than a receiver style, but the construction is quite solid.
I'd recommend buying a spare bumper cover and cutting that as required, and fit it in place of your original cover, so you can store the original and refit it later if you ever decide to get rid of the towbar.

I need to fit my heavy duty one and I'll have two tow bars spare :s

I had a closer look at my 940s rear bumper and it does, indeed, have cutouts marked on it. It appears to have two: a rectangle shaped one and a smaller oval shaped one inside that. I'm guessing that's because the euro tow bars are a different shape or something.
I might go check out the wreckers and see if any 940s have tow bars fitted. I'm also looking at roof rack options like Thule.
Thanks for the input everyone.
Cheers
