So I've finally got around to doing some work on the 240 wagon I bought about mid 2014. Thought the best thing to start with would be to remove the bumpers, front guards and interior for a closer inspection. The car will be getting a fresh coat of paint so now is the time to sort out any gremlins hiding away under carpets or behind panels. Thankfully the strip down didn't find too much. There's some rust in the seam beneath the rear bumper that has rusted into the boot compartment. After lifting the carpet and foam underlay I found a nasty rust hole under the front passenger seat. It seems to have started in the sill then rusted through the inner before allowing water onto the floor pan. I'm sure there are others who have had this problem with their 240s. So closer inspection shows that the vent in front of the windscreen allows water to drain out through the sills. My LH sill seems to be full of all kinds of leaf material, no way it's coming out through the tiny drain holes! So I'm keen to know what you guys do. I'll be doing a full repair on the damaged area, when I'm finished I'm thinking of cutting some drain holes in the front of the sill (behind the front guards) to help with cleaning out leaf matter, for rustproofing etc. I guess not parking under a tree helps too. I'm interested to know what you other guys have done to fix/prevent this problem. Cheers, Marty.
