Hi - I'm swapping motors / transmission / front suspension of XC70's, by dropping the lot on the sub frame. No worries, got 'em out BUT gearbox selector electrical cabling differs. 'OUT' (ran out of oil) is a Jun'05 -- 'IN' is from an accident danmage May '03. Both B5254T2 motors. Both gearboxes pre coded as 55-51SN, but then another set of numbers completely different. Wiring harnesses (2 of 'em) on the 'Out' at the selector input, is immediately via a connector - Harnesses on the 'IN' is via fixed wiring at the selector lever end to connectors on the body of the vehicle. Wires completely different colours. Any advice / Any adaptor connector (I wish). Do I try to take selector top off & swap. Thanks for a Happy Christmas !!!

Oops - pictures did work (thanks Rob) but first two are of '03 & last two of '06 - - going '03 motor in '06 body cheers

Pnp switch can be swapped
I have the wiring diagrams for the 2 trans and it looks like one to one mapping for valve body wires
Send me a pm with your email and I will pdf you the pages from the wiring diagrams you need

Done the job, but no go -- starter motor turns over about 2-3 times then cancels - no firing up either. Suspect ECU not talking to something.
I kept the ECU's in the '06 body & put '03 motor & gearbox in - but I kept the main wire harness from motor of '03 & plugged it into (swapped) the base of ECU - that's approx half ECU to motor, balance to body. Do I have to come back & transfer all of motor harness back to '06, reconnecting all sensor points etc. Also, I've kept '06 gearbox ECU but put in '03 gearbox & reconnected inside control panel of g/box
Any clues - happy Christmas

You should have used the 06 wiring harness
I doubt it will work as is

I'm proud to say success after swapping the engine wiring harness over as well - as above - - how can a computer know different wiring when all connectors match up & all ??? HOWEVER, I do have a couple of faults showing - picture of an engine says 'fault in emission system' & , after 30 seconds of starting, battery symbol comes on "alternator not charging", but it appears to be working. Any common things or is it off to a Volvo computer. Thanks
Rob
I don't suppose you have a leftover exhaust manifold you want to part with?
Philia_Bear
Which alt did you use? Older or newer one?
lloyd48
Used the older alternator, is, the one that was already with the '03 motor (of course it's in an '06 body).
It is definitely charging though - may have to get the ECU cleared at Volvo - 300km away

Where in aus do you live?

Rob - - - Yep, exhaust manifold is available - that's an '06 one. Was gonna keep hang-ons though - alternator / starter / a/c compressor / power steer & cat. converter - - - just after the first flange from the manifold !! I'm at Margaret River - lower SW of WA - so could be a little freight, but if ure keen or desperate.

I will send you a message
