Hi all I'm new to forum, have replaced a leaking rear seal on the engine and have how got it all back together and it won't engage any gear (it's the Aisan auto) the tranny was working perfectly before the rear seal job! I have the correct fluid type and it's at the correct level on the dipstick!! The revs rise slightly when I engage any gear and they drop when the car is in park or neutral. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Peter

Did the torque converter empty? Doesn't drop in after a fair rev? Not really sure but hopefully someone with more experience can chime in.

I think it may have partially emptied, will it fill up again? Hope I don't have to remove the tranny again!!

If it was fine before then it's almost certainly fluid related. Either that or you forgot to connect the prop shaft! :-P
peterwmh
Lol, prop shaft is definitely connected!

Tried running it for about 10min with a few higher rev blips but the dipstick level didn't drop and still no drive!!!

Did the torque converter come out of the box when it was out? If so, did it go back into the drive inside the box's pump? Do you check the transmission oil with the engine running?
peterwmh
It did come out, but I put in back on the spline until it engaged in and was sitting deep enough in the bell housing (well so I thought). I am checking the oil with the engine running.

+1 for torque converter they can be tricky to get them all the way in we usually have to stand the box up vertically to get it right
peterwmh
Would I have damaged it permanently or can I remove it, try to get it to engage further and reassemble? Thanks

You may have broken the torque converter teeth. But you won't know till you pull it out. Did you change the oil at the same time when you pulled it out? What about the filter in the pan? They can block up causing no drive.
peterwmh
Yes oil and filter changed and new pan gasket. Looks like I need to pull the tranny off again!!!
