My drift adventures started out in a Volvo 240 which also happened to be my first car. Snapped the handbrake not long into it trying to initiate slides then killed the clutch just after that relying on compression locks coming into corners. Always wanted to get back into it but said I'd only do it with another Volvo.
First and number 1 thing I'd recomend doing is locking the rear diff, even with low power just throw some worn skinny tyres on the rear and this will get you sliding and having fun.
Then try get rid of as much weight in the car as possible or as much comfort as you want to lose. Best thing about this is its Freeeee!!!
I'd then stiffen the suspension and do thicker sway bars. This makes it a bit more predictable to start slides and hold them.
Then start looking at power upgrades.
From there on you're falling down rabbit holes breaking and fixing things every second meet, changing tyres every gear change and you start contemplating if you can afford an S15 or Skyline, LS swaps, or finding a new hobby.
But its all worth while, no better feeling in a car than limiter bashing a long slide through a corner looking out the side window to go straight, especially when that car is a Swedish tank.
Good luck with it, I'd say just have a go and dont worry about being competitive at first just have fun with the intention to go all out crazy on the car haha
