Hello again!
So my 1990 240 has now been +T'd for a couple thousand k's and has been mostly healthy however I am noticing a slight build up of oil in the intake after the turbo, some mild hesitations and now some smoke and oil smell from the turbo (not the exhaust).
It's a TB03 and I had it rebuilt with Garret parts before it went in. This is my first time turboing and a lot of the parts came from a parts car including the oil feed. I saw on drifts n' lifts that he was talking about oil restrictors on his turbo and it occurred to me that I don't have any in my oil feed line and that it's rather freely flowing.
Could this be causing oil-pressure induced leaking?
The line is off a Tee where the oil pressure switch is and up through a 90 to the turbo inlet where it is tapped in to the centre instead of using the OEM bracket. I believe the line is a -6an which seems rather big to me (I'll confirm size tomorrow). This all came from the parts car that also had an oily intake.
The car also has the boost turned up to 10psi but lately I've been staying around stock boost levels or babying it. Oil is also 10-50 synthetic with a mann filter
So do these turbos normally have restrictors on the oil feed or could this be caused by the oversized line?
If so what size restrictor is standard or commonly used?
What oil lines have you found success with on similar setups? could you please send photos or parts lists?
All help and contributions are appreciated. Please let me know if I need to give more info. Thankyou!
