740 & 760 HELP: 740 Diff Identification
Can someone help Identify my diff type?
I’ve bought a wrecked 1990 740 GL Auto and pulled this sticker off the diff (top photo).
Is it a 1030 or 1031?
Because I haven’t been able to find a 3.73 1031, I figured I could source a 1030 diff to swap a CJ Jeep Dana30 3.73 gearset into.
The bottom photo is the sticker on my 1993 940 GLE for comparison, clearly labeled “1031”.
Cheers

iirc no 7/9 came with a 1030, that was only 240.
It may well be a 1041 (g80 locker) but thats super extremely unlikely for aus market. Pull the diff cover off and youll be able to see straight away if possible.
BTW, I know you were looking for truetracs, pretty sure it comes all as one piece with a 3.73 final drive you should be able to install in your 4.10 housing
Part number 1216372-1, 4.10:1 ratio.
It's a 1031, not 'anti-spin' in Volvo jargon.
See 1988-90 740 parts manual, Group 46, page 1009.
In another diff post some months ago I said you could get 4.1 : 1 on a 7/9 and a few didn’t believe me. Yes 1031.
Thanks Matt for more proof they do exist.
Anthony
4.1:1 ratios were usually fitted to the NA cars and the B234 cars.
3:73 were often fitted to the turbos (AFAIK).
I thought that all NA auto 940s came with 4.1s, ie: the vast majority of them …
Yes I’m looking to do a Truetrac or Wavetrac install. So you’re saying that the LSD will come with a 3.73 final drive ration, therefore replacing my 4.1 FD because that would be Ideal.
As above most of the auto b230fb and b234f did.
My cars have the following;
92 940 b230fb auto, 4.10
1991 940 b230fb auto, 4.10
1989 740 b234f auto, 4.10
and then a 1995 b230FT auto diff I bought came with 3.73 gears (which is what I have swapped into my car now)
I've literally got a 95 940s in my driveway, it's a b230fk
