Worth wrecking 96 850 in TAS?

So, the quite serviceable 96 850 white wagon, 20 valve NA I gave my nephew did its first car job, and he survived the prang by bending the chassis on a tree stump off the side of a country road. That first year driving is the scary one.

So Tassie Volvo fan's, do any of you still run 850s and have any interest in picking over the bones, or should it go directly to scrap? Logistics of interstate transport are tough at the moment. I probably only have a couple of days to make the call.

As good bits (and indeed obscure/hidden and not so good bits) are now rare if you can save a whole lot of parts interior, exterior and mechanical you could make decent money over time.

If bent but still driving maybe someone could bring it to Melbourne with transport company if cost effective.

    How good is it?

  • @1971_144GL what is the interior like? If it has leather / beige front seats in reasonable shape, I'm interested in some bone picking, since they should fit in the 965.

If you are up for posting the dash pad to WA I'm up for that 👍

Hi Snoopy, Runs but not drives I understand. Not mint, but good used/un trashed. Unfortunately I think I would loose more money than I would make by wrecking it and selling off the bits. A hazard of being in small business is finding time. Plus I have a shed full of old Volvo bits in Melbourne already that seems to have no value these days. But If I do spend an afternoon stripping it, I will see if I can get requested items.

    Black leather seats I'm afraid.

I will look at the dash if I go ahead. From memory, like all 850's, the plastic has curled at the designed failure point for the airbag outline on the passenger side.

It's been ages since I've seen an 850 on the road in Tassie, now that I think of it.

    How good are the seats?

  • I'd be interested in a part of 2!

I'm fine with any top damage as it will be re-trimed . It's the hard plastics underneath , hopefully they're intact
