Hi Chums, I've had this prob before and I hoped it'd go away as it's spasmodic and is 'fixed' immediately. But,
I hadn't driven the like new 312,000kms car for a month and the battery wouldn't hold a charge. Got a new battery...
Started car up and "Engine Management" (EM) line came on. I drove the car 1.2kms to do some shopping. Started car and no EM light. Straight drive home at 25deg C. Got home and turned car off - and fan starts whirring. Won't stop unless I turn ign on. I disconnect the battery and after an hour reconnect and fan silent. I run an OBD and no faults show up.
Next day pick up Daughter and drive around a lot - shopping etc. At one stage the "Dynamic Stability Assist" (DSA) light comes on but next time I start the car it's off.
I loaned the car to my Daughter. Returning the car she phones me - from the end of my street, telling me "I think I've run out of petrol". I smile and say "Turn the car off and then start it". It starts straight away and returns car.
I figger it's the Brains (ECU) that've probably got a dry socket and making the car unreliable - very unsafe. As previously posted the car's stopped on me thrice before - once in a busy roundabout.
The car is magnificent and Winter's on it's way and it's unsafe and unreliable. I don't want to see it crushed. It's been serviced and garaged all it's life (Except for me with no garage this last 3 years). I spent over $3000 on it last year.
Any hints 'n tips on what I could do or replace to make my Volvo safe?
