nut3y Back again with even more problems, car is turning into more of a headache than enjoyment at this point. The passenger side hood latch is stuck shut, no amount of pulling the lever while prying/pushing etc. will get this sucker open. I watched Roberts video on the issue and it's all well and good except the tab is only on the drivers side latch. No manual pull tab for the passenger side. The cable inside the cabin works and i've tried pulling it with pliers in case of a stretched cable but again it only releases the drivers side. i can hear it moving on the passenger side so the cable isn't broken. I believe the latch has seized with the recent rain. WD-40 doesn't help, tried that. I'm thinking that surely something as trivial as a stuck hood latch would pop into the minds of the engineers at Volvo HQ and that there is some sort of secret method that would release it independent of the cable. Does anyone have this info?
nut3y Yeah i've tried that but still no progress. I'll re-tension the cable as it's a lever and i'm pretty sure that it's applying more force than I can with a pair of pliers.
hamsandwich 850s are 50% headache and %50 enjoyment!Lucky I love this thing. Mine was opposite and the pass side would not latch at all. I changed just the latch on pass side and it's been fine ever since. Can't help with tricks for opening it tho sorry.
nut3y Yeah you really lose motivation when you can't drive it, the auto box really takes away from the excitement too. The guard in the foot-well has been glued back on -_- so it'll be a pain to get to the tensioning screw. Just hope this works otherwise the car is pretty much useless. Really bugs me that no one thought that this had the potential to be a problem when designing the car.
nut3y Cable snapped but I managed to get it open with nearly half a can of WD-40 and lots of pushing/pulling on the bonnet. There is an emergency release on the passenger side but it's inaccessible through the headlight with the bonnet closed as it tucks itself up and out of reach of pretty much any tool I can think of. I'd recommend any 850 owners to tie a wire to this in case of a snapped cable so both latches can still be released manually. I definitely know I'll be doing this even if it gives a way for thieves to access the engine bay but I highly doubt anyone would be bothered.
