Hey all, I have been fighting my 240 of 5 years for a couple weeks now, and unfortunately it seems less and less likely I will be able to keep the car.
So, original issue was stalling every couple miles, then not being able to run at all. I ordered a new Bosch ignition module and installed it, and I got the car back and going... or so it seems.
For the past 3 days I have driven the car with no issues, so I decided to take it back to my apartment , and well, everything went wrong. I have a major gas smell (I have an aftermarket MAS and the original, both don't seem to change anything). The car tries to die or does actually die depending on what I've done. Because of this I pulled out of my parents driveway, the car bogged down, and I put it in reverse and went right back in.
The main thing is the idle is chaos. It will sometimes idle high, idle low, or jump around a bit. When going into gear it sometimes drops the idle to 500 or lower, then it comes up. Sometimes I will rev it in park and the RPM will get stuck in the 1500ish range, then drop down and fluctuate. I think my mistake was pulling the IAC and cleaning it with carb cleaner possibly. The IAC opens and closes using the car's self check mode, and it opens and closes when I have it on the bench power supply. The TPS has been adjusted to open when just hardly tapping the throttle but I can check again I guess. The throttle body has been cleaned a million times trying to chase a hesitation issue the car has always had. IF you just tap the throttle, especially repetitively, the car tries to die and the engine jerks all around. Like the joke where the patient says to the doctor "it hurt's when I do this" and the doctor says "then don't do that", i've learned to not tap the throttle slightly and take off with some force.
At this point I might just have to surrender the car to a shop and hope I can afford it, or just let it go. I keep trying and most parts are new, so it gets harder and harder as time goes on.
