740 & 760 Cam swap in a 1987 740

Hi all,

I've got a 1987 740 with a B230F. It currently has the M cam, but i have a good used condition VX3 cam.

Recently i met a Volvo engineer who actually told me it won't run right as the VX cam wasn't made for the B230F and i probably shouldn't swap it.

Is this true in a real life scenario?

The M cam is a bit boring and i'd like to get a bit more power, but i certainly don't want the car to run or idle worse.

  • Did they say why?

  • Lots of B230F's came with that cam. In fact the B230FB has the VX3 cam originally. No difference and you can put that cam in your engine with no trouble at all

But you must check and adjust your valves if necessary

I will resist the desire to character assassinate anyone who gives advice like this without backing it up with evidence, and simply state that old mate is speaking crap.

Yeah, he said it will idle much worse.

If I've got nothing to worry about then I'll put it in.

  • Doesn't know what he's talking about, as Spac says

    Slap that sucker in
