Slowbrick Ill be really blunt. If you havent got the finance to buy the correct parts then this isnt going to work out well for you and your engine. $500 for a pair of ECU/EZK is not really that far out of the ballpark. Sure maybe you could get them for $200 each if you buy them separately and haggle but as a complete set it isnt really that expensive for a matching pair of computers that WILL work.
I paid $200 for an LH 2.4 computer nearly 5 years ago. I cant imagine they have gotten any cheaper since.
You cannot use the NA ECU or EZK with a turbo engine. The NA ECU uses low flow, high impedance injectors. You will need to find some 850 T5 injectors to even remotely have something that might work. If you install the turbo green tops then your NA ECU will end up with fried injector drivers.
The NA EZK much like the NA Chrysler ignition has a very aggressive timing map. It tries to get to the highest amount of timing as possible which is not what you want with a turbo.
To save yourself and all of us answering the resulting threads when it doesnt work, either pony up the cash and buy the right parts or spend the time wiring up the megasquirt. If the NA components worked then Volvo wouldnt have made distinct differences between the two sets of components.
I know i come across as being a "dick" but these sorts of questions come up often and the answer really is this simple. Use the right components that are proven to work.
Blunt is good, does't bother me. I have the finance, but I'm avoiding 'splashing out' as much as I can, but if I have to spend $500, I have to. Merely looking at my options. ?
To be honest, I'm just excited, it should be back in this weekend, and wanted to know if I can putter around with the old N/A computers while I wait for a computer setup, but I won't be risking that now!
As for injectors, I am aware I'll need high impedance injectors from a turbo model if I want to avoid the need for a resistor pack, I'm also in search of these so I'll see how I go.
Again, it doesn't bother me, firm response with a clear message. Poor man pays twice, anyway.
FWIW, at least now any one looking into the same question will have a nice thread with all the answers.
