DiscoEmu Hi Guysjust recently installed a genuine tow bar (from a wrecker) on my 2010 XC60 D5 ... any tips or tricks to install the brake controller? The one I bought is the Redarc Tow Pro Elite. Thanks
VolvoMike The tow pro elite is so small the it can be mounted anywhere. The twist knob can go in the side of the steering column surround. You will need to cut off the original Volvo wiring plug and re wire it completely if it's a 7 pin version without an adapter. Volvo decided to have an individual wire for left and right brake lights as well as the tail lights which resulted in trailers with electric brakes getting 12 volts down the line when brakes were applied. Also, if it's an early trailer control module, they won't work correctly if the trailer has LED tail lights.Regards,Michael
DiscoEmu Thanks for the info Michael! Why won’t it work with LED trailer lights? (I have LED’s in my camper trailer)Can I simply use a resistor?
VolvoMike LED's will flicker as the car sends a pulse down the line to check if a bulb has blown. You can fit a resistor which was the solution by Volvo but they can get up to 200° and cause other issues like fire. You can probably use internal lighting with no issues.
