After one of these if someone's wanting to part ways or has a spare

They're a bit pricey new from Repco

  • eBay has them for $110. Autotecnica model 233

Thanks I'm aware of those ones. Will resort to that if I can't source elsewhere

  • The Momo ones are a bit better quality than the Autotechnica ones IMHO but they still require a modification to get the indicator stalk to cancel properly.
  • I'm pretty sure I've got a spare. I'll have to check. I had bought one and then I got another with a steering wheel I bought. It is in storage so it may take a day or 2 to check.
I'm in Sydney but I can send it to Port Melbourne through my companies internal mail for free.
    Interested?
    What are you offering?
If you have a '90's 240 green book workshop manual I'd be interested in part swap.
I also picked up a 1974 140 Volvo greenbook and p1800 greenbook on the weekend if your interested in the 140 book.

    Cheers

What modification is that? I'm running a Momo boss and the indicators seem to cancel fine, but I bought mine used so maybe it was already modified.

On the two Momo ones I have, they have two longitudinal ribs in the casting to cancel the indicator. I found the spacing on them was inadequate and the indicator often cancelled when entering a roundabout. I compared it to the original steering wheel indicator cancellation feature which was wider, and I folded up a small piece of tin to replicate the original shape and screwed it onto the ribs of the boss. Now works like a charm.

i actually ended up just purchasing the momo one off ebay. the steering wheel arrived today. i assume i will make the same mod as you @carnut222

@Ramrodfunk unfortunately saw this after i made the purchase
  • No worries. It is a bit annoying without doing the mod. I haven't modded mine but i think i will.

i will be making the mod as for the indicator stalk. i agree it is rather annoying but another issue i have is i cant have the shroud on the column.

does anyone have a solution for the momo adaptor rubbing on the steering shroud?

You might be able to loosen the U-clamp holding the lower part of the steering column (near the brake pedal) and see if you can move the column rearward a bit? There may be another way to move the column rearward a little - possibly loosen the bolts on the U-joints in the engine bay and slide the splines out of the U-joints slightly to effectively lengthen the steering column to push the inner shaft rearward a bit? Not sure though. I have 2x 240s with Momo hub adapters and one rubs a tiny bit while the other doesn’t rub at all. The 2 screws under the steering column holding the shroud up from underneath often pull through the plastic and allow the shroud to drop down a bit, causing rubbing on the top. May be worth looking there too...

i did try and to loosen the clamp and but to no avail : ( i am thinking possibly to put a spacer on the column infront of the boss adaptor which will bring the adaptor out by 1mm-2mm or so

That’s not a bad idea. In my car (the one that rubs) it’s not rubbing by much. Next time I take the steering wheel off I might see about putting a 2 mm thick washer between the adaptor and the shoulder on the shaft. I think the spring for the horn ring has enough pre-load that it would still contact fine. On my yellow 79 I’m planning to use a Momo wheel and I already have the adaptor, so will let you know if I find any tricks on that. I have the whole column removed so if I can see a way to move it rearward slightly that could be the go.
