S80 One less RWD S90 in Melbourne😥

My HK spec S90 hit a greasy corner and slid yesterday, with it declared a write-off this morning. 4m4f5h52dxne.jpeg

Will the insurance company get it scrapped or will it be parted out? It’s my first car and I love it, but I don’t have the space or time to part it out. It was a pristine 190k km car and none of the mechanical components were harmed, so I’d feel better if other 960/S90s kept going as a result of my misfortune.

Damn shame. Have you thought about getting the parts and fixing it if it's an economic write off? Or maybe give voldat or Berry's a call...they might be able to get you back on the road for less than the cost of a new car? (Assuming it's not a statutory write off that can't be fixed).

I’ve called Berry’s (where it was serviced) so hopefully they can give me some idea once they call back. I’m still to find out if it’s a statutory write off, but I think it will probably just be economic given the structural condition.
  • Hope it works out for you!

To old to be Stat write off at all?
    cancer sucks

  • 15 years is the current limit for listing on the WOVR so if it's >15 years old it won't be a stat writeoff regardless. In terms of feasibility of a repair, it will depend on the damage underneath the panels; the costs could add up
  • @Spac has a 960 or two for sale....

I wouldn’t want to go any older than what I had. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for a 97/98 S90 (the 850s and S80s don’t interest me in the aspirated form) or I might end up in a period BMW E39 touring. I’d love a V90 but that would be a rather unlikely situation.

I also have a S90... Not really for sale, but I would definitely consider selling it with a crashed S90 as part payment...

In any case, that is 100% not going to be fixed by your insurance. They won't even hesitate before declaring it an EWO.

If I was you, I would see if they'll sell you the wreck. Some companies are very good about it, others are total dicks. If the value of the wreck is reasonable (ie: Marginally above scrap value), just buy it back and work it out later.

Buying it back would only be an option if it was taken off my hands immediately. Living in inner Melbourne unfortunately means I can’t have the wreck sitting around waiting for a buyer. I’ll work out options with the insurance company first.

Scrap value plus at least 150 for tow. Is it worth mucking around with?
Never mind having the cost of sending it interstate as non driver.....
  • Ain't nuthin wrong with an older 960 if it's in better shape than what you had

My S90 was advertised as a 960. I checked it out, test drove it, did the deal, loaded it onto the trailer and then noticed the badge...
The largest difference between a late 960 and a S90 is the boot lid badge, as best as I have seen.

I’d just prefer not to go much older. I’d like to stick to a car equipped with the side airbags (1996 onwards) and I prefer the centre console design in the 90 series cars.

    Swap interior bits over.
Side bags are in the seats, swap them.
