DiscoEmu Hi guys Has anyone replaced their stock air filters with K&N? I need to replace mine on a D5 and at around $100 on eBay, seems like a logical upgrade. Thoughts and advice? Thanks
Ex850R A lot will say it's a downgrade, Esp if it's an oiled one.... Volvo do good airboxes, filters are cheap. Even if you modified a whole lot under there a filter kit doesn't net anything significant other than extra noise.
timbo As @Ex850R mentioned probs not worth it but if you do get one do not oil it as the oil will coat the MAF sensor.
DiscoEmu Having used a k&n previously in a diesel 4wd, you only have issues with MAFS if you over-oil the filter after a clean ... so I’m not particularly concerned with that.
Ex850R There is a good tutorial video on why not to use oiled filters. An old school classroom tute that tells you never bother with an oiled filter. Especially when the original works as R+D engineers at the company intended.
egads Paper filters changed regularly will end up cheaper than a k+n and won’t end up with any possible oiling down the intake of an oil that the maf isn’t setup to resist. Non oiled they are missing smaller particles so you will be gunking more than you should also
