Anyone know who to ring to get a car taken away for scrap?
In sydney?
I'm talking about getting rid of a v70, all intact but car missing its bonnet and front guard, after market mag wheels attached, some rego left.

In Melbourne I take them to a metal recycling facility and am paid about 150-200 for the car depending on weight.
I am sure a similar facility exists up there.
Usually they are forked onto a trailer, so the need for a trailer is there.
Sometimes on gumtree there are services that will take a car so long as it is on wheels.

If you put up a post in the for sale section of this forum, listing the car for free or a cheap price, with a couple of photos, somebody here will probably pick it up to use for parts, which helps members to keep their cars going.
Failing that, you can try calling a specialist Volvo wreckers, they may collect it.
These options are better environmentally than sending a mostly complete car direct to scrap metal, where only the metal raw materials are put back into use.
Generally the plates can be handed in to the RTA and you can get a refund of the remaining rego.

A v70 is worth 250 picked up in Melbourne.

Google it, you will get many business wanting it.

In Sydney its worth zero. Land too expensive to have piles of old cars just sitting there.
Most wreckers don't want to know about it.
I've found a guy who will come around and take it for free without having seen it so no problem now.

Thanks for your suggestions guys

lol... Pretty much the worst possible outcome, despite being given good advice....
You've blown at least $100 (probably more like $200~250) AND you've managed to make all the usable parts go to waste.
Bravo.

No one is paying $250 for wrecks if they have to come and pick it up. @ICEDVOVO gets the panel's he needs and the car taken away for free it's a good outcome
ICEDVOVO
How is it going to waste?
The guys a RECYCLER. Pulls the parts and sells them. The rest gets thrown in a smelter.
I can't think of a more favourable outcome.
There are no wreckers that I could find that would give me money for the car unless I took it to them and even then they had to decide if it was worth their while before accepting it. One wrecking yard I went to must have had 200 volvo bumper skins in just about any colour you like. Because he was short on space he just kept the skins They looked like they had been sitting there for 20 years. If there was a strong demand for them, there wouldn't be 200 of them sitting around.
The most they were prepared to pay me was $200 but it's going to cost me $200 to get the car to them and I haven't got time to hire a trailer and take it there. The car I am repairing has an insurance salvage value of $200 and it's a rare manual "R" in excellent condition aside from its recent unfortunate front rearrangement. But on the books its worth a lousy $200.
That commercial reality results in most old volvos being written off and junked.
And that is criminal.
Most people dont want old cars; they don't have the skills or inclination; they just want the next new shiny thing they can lease or pay off and leave the servicing to the dealership.
If I had a farm I could leave the wrecks parked in the paddocks for volvo nuts to pick through but since I don't have the luxury of that much space I have no choice other than calling the take away car recycling man.
But I will do the right thing and offer it up to OZvolvo ppl for a limited time before it goes to god. In my situation its the best thing I can do.

Can I come take a look at it on Friday or Saturday? I'm just in blacktown

I got 250 each for a 99 v70, a 98 v40 and 350 for a 98 camry a month ago I Melbourne.
I don't believe a larger city wouldn't have this option.
Ripped off....

Even in miserable old Canberra, I can get $150/ton for scrap.
Certainly no shortage of Melbournians able to get $200+ collected - I would be amazed if you cannot do the same in Sydney.
The going rate for a non-accident suburban tow is around $80, and you can often pay less for cash or “off peak”.
Finally, you appear to misunderstand the enthusiast market.
ICEDVOVO
Yes you are right Spac.
With 6 volvos in my garage and having bought my first one 40 years ago I obviously just don't get the enthusiasm .

Car isn't here yet. Won't be done with it until maybe June or later. Especially since it's my son who will be doing all the work . I just don't have the time. Rear will be intact except for some central locking bits. After that I'll drive it around to the private rear laneway where it's nice and shady ; you can just pull off whatever you like there before it gets towed. And you can make as much noise there as you like down there as the Chilean drug dealer who owns the house next to the parking bay has it in his wife's name and only makes an occasional visit to pretend someone lives there so he can avoid capital gains tax when he eventually sells. Geez he's a smart operator. In fact you can even work there at night under the light spill from the drug lab fluros that run 24hrs a day. Just make sure you give a friendly wave to the Chilean drones carrying airline bags who occasionally come and go from the back door that opens onto the laneway.
ICEDVOVO
If you were as enterprising as my Chilean neighbor you wouldn't be worried about losing $200 on a wreck.
But then again maybe he would.
Why else would he put 20 solar panels on the roof of a house that no-one lives in?

Your neighbour sounds great, a real entrepreneur. I hope he gets tax concessions for his income generating work. Think of the local economy he's supporting.
