Hi - I would appreciate any help at all on this one!
I have a 2009 XC60 showing the warning message " Charging fault service urgent " -I replaced the battery after 2 days in rain its come back! I know there is a common fault with water leaking in because of the front windscreen on the early model XC60's.
Any ideas?
Cheers.

Is it the 6 cylinder petrol engine?

Yep!

First thing to check is the drive coupling for the alternator, it's common for the sprag clutch on the pulley to fail, which in turn loosens the bolt that holds the clutch on.
If you're unfamiliar with the alternator setup on these cars it's a bit of a nightmare. The alternator is under the intake manifold. There is a geared accessory drive system on the back of the engine above the gearbox that drives the other accessories via a conventional serpentine belt, then drives the alternator via a splined coupling.
First thing to check would be the voltage at the battery while the engine is running. Your looking for at least 13volts

Wow - thanks Tim. I used to have a C30 too but needed 5 seats! Thanks again - I'll check it out tonight when I get home.

Thanks again for the info Tim - I had to replace the Alternator in the end. Cheers.
