egads Time has come to sell my xc90. Has rego til 21/8 in the ACT and should breeze through a blueslip/rego inspection. I the time I have had it I have added 5k kms and have done: Added kaplhenke adjustable strut tops OEM struts Bonnet struts Steering angle sensor Front control arms Sway bar endlinks Front ball joints Previous owners had rear haldex fluid done. Automatic transmission shifts nicely. V8 sounds great and goes like stink. Double thickness windows which cuts out much of the road noise so you only hear the V8 goodness. Looking to get $8k which I think is very reasonable for a sorted but not 100% cosmetically V8 XC90 Located in Yass NSW. Can inspect there or in Canberra by arrangement and I can deliver to Sydney or Melbourne and most places in between if you cover fuel and a train ticket back to Yass.
Ex850R Dynaudio sound worth mentioning. I wish I hadn't seen the engine bay, I must resist flying up there to clean it!
Nelpd96 I have a spare hood lining that the buyer can have. You will have to cut a hole for the sunroof but it will cover the DVD player hole. Might be difficult to transport though.
ToomanyVolvos Stop teasing me. What's the truth about these engines? Sure they are cool but I've heard comments about longevity....... Based on what some engines are capable of, it's seems fair that no properly maintained motor should fail (excluding ancillary items causing the failure) at less than at least 4-500K, perhaps double that. I'm sure someone once commented on this forum about the life of these engines being about 200K and that makes no sense to me unless there's an inherent weakness. Hoping to be corrected / enlightened.
egads I don’t know of any inherent weakness, they need seals as maintenance items which isn’t unusual really. More likely to kill the six speed behind the engine by uber kms.
iceton1975 Never changed a motor yet, but plenty of transmissions and AODs great cars loved my V8 but after the second transmission enough was enough. Still a fab motor but not cheap motoring
ToomanyVolvos So the Aisin TF-80SC (same as diesel?) is the weak point even with regular fluid changes?
Philia_Bear ToomanyVolvos;c-156687 wroteSo the Aisin TF-80SC (same as diesel?) is the weak point even with regular fluid changes? Failures are very rare across the fleet as a whole Stuff starts being worn at about the 300 to 350k mark Fluid changes and software update are 2 key aspects
iceton1975 Your very wrong @Philia_Bear seen these units fail at 120k and changed as D5 transmissions city driving cars fail more than country driving cars. Once you work in a large volvo workshop you will see this .
ToomanyVolvos So the question in my head is.... If tranny fluid was done every 80K, preferably 60K, would we see these last till 3-4-500 like they should (and like old maintained tranny's did)?
timbo @ToomanyVolvos the main failure is the valve body so I'm assuming that flushing trans would mitigate most of the wear in the solenoid bores. It's interesting to note that Volvo don't specify any Haldex oil changes either but VW do them every 60k.
