I always weld the back of the pivot point on the fork to build up thickness there before installing a used one, as it's common for them to wear through and pop over the pivot ball, causing the slave cylinder to eject the piston.
This happened to me in the 760 and I had to drive half way across Melbourne without a functioning clutch, it also happened to me on a 240 paddock bomb. It's rare to find them without the Volvo parts sticker, I have about four on the shelf all with the sticker, and some of those are also quite worn on the pivot ball.
I normally space the pivot ball out with a washer when using a fork with some wear as well.
Thanks Angus. Good info. I do have the trans from a really dodgy 240 I bought years ago and fork was welded up as you mentioned (probably after failure based on the condition of that car!) Edit: I forgot to mention when I picked up that car (out in Moe IIRC) and drove it back to Melb, the clutch slave seized on the drive back just when I got off the freeway...then the clutch hose burst in Lance Phillips’ driveway...so I had to drive it to Clayton from Berwick with no clutch. That’s fun!
