It's my favourite car I've ever owned!
I bought this last year, year before last? from a young engineer surfer who was moving to Rio to live with his girlfriend (turns out we should all be engineers)
The car was his dad's he was at Uni with it, and now I have it.
He fitted some king lowering springs and a thicker rear sway bar (I've never measured it but it's nothing monstrous), and some BSB wheels that are annoying to clean.
The car if I'm honestly feels over sprung, well for my preferences anyway, but it's still comfortable and pretty modest in the scheme of things.
But the thing is a nugget of fun. With boost climbing in second gear you feel like a super hero as the car puts you in the back of the seat as it accelerates toward the Hyundai accident doing 80 on the M4.. (grrrr)
Why am I getting rid of it? Well I want to tow stuff. And although a generous forum member here offered a tow bar, I'm ultimately going to feel more comfortable with a car with a larger towing capacity.
Let's be honest, its pretty rough. The interior hood lining collapsed, so it's removed and if you look up, you see a sky of orange foam that thankfully, isn't crumbly yet.
The drivers seat leather was worn when I got it with the stitching cracked in a few places. I honestly thought it wouldn't pass rego but it did, so I haven't replaced it yet. The Passenger front seat is also showing foam in a few places, but otherwise ok. The rear seats are fine.
The black weather strips along the roof line cracked and fell off whilst doing ~100 on the pacific highway.
There is a small paint chip in the front left of the bonnet around the grill.
Prior owner dropped a shelf into the rear quarter panel, it's all dinged and messed up (photos to come)
Clear coat isn't cracking, I'm just not sure it's even on certain parts of the car, the foam brush always comes up a bit purple after every wash. The grey bumpers and stuff are faded, no doubt accelerated because of the QLD heat from which it originated.
Finally the T fell of the back :(
When I bought it (about ~2yrs) I took it to the Volvo Mecca of Melbourne (Berry's) where a couple of odds and ends where corrected for rego. A new windscreen, those pesky side lights that fail are new, cat was replaced, random rubbers, some of the interior switching (lights) where corrected, and a couple of other clips and stuff where needed.
Since then it has had 4 x new ignition coils (~12m old) and a new drivers seat belt (was fraying)
It's travelled 231,000~km's I've changed the oil every ~6000km's It's been the most reliable thing I have ever owned.
If all things go to plan, selling this will see me in a 960 and I can continue waving the nerd Volvo flag like a dork, admittedly with a tow bar and shit race car behind it. (VIV LA FRANCE)
I'll take some pictures of all that mentioned in the morning, but just so you know it exists and can confirm rego with NSW;
VIN is; YV1YS1822XF390957
During the week it is parked at Eastern Creek, on weekends at Stratfield. Happy if you want to inspect during office hours, we can use the hoist at work and you can no doubt show me all the other stuff I forgot to mention :(
Cheers,
Dan
