i had spacers on when I had the ke20 engineered. He said nothing, but perhaps he didn't notice them.
The reason I used them was it was a wider diff and we used a more +ve offset wheel to get the wheels in the right location, so I used spacers on the front wheels so I could use the same wheels all around.

Or the fact his company is advertised below would give away that he is an actual accredited engineer? Minor thing. He's done previous articles on engineering a hot rod etc too.
The attitude that the engineer wont be paid is an odd one, given they have the part over us to sign our cars off, generally you do what they ask... But maybe I'm missing something

If you take the time to call several engineers, you will find they all have vastly different opinions on issues such as this. A single broad-brush opinion alone does not make someone correct from a technical standpoint.
Call 3 engineers you will find 3 vastly different opinions. There is no standard method of risk assessment for every modification in existence, so it's up to each engineer as to what they find an acceptable level of risk.
Probably the best example of this are engine swaps on vehicles fitted with airbags and seatbelt pretensioner systems. Some engineers will not touch these vehicles with a ten-foot pole, citing that the vehicle must be crash-tested again, other engineers are happy to work with the customer and make it happen.
It also depends on your approach and how methodical you are. If you present as a dickhead that skims over detail and is looking for an easy answer, the engineer will not give you the time of day, as the risk simply isn't worth it.

That could probably be why it's said in the article in general they aren't accepted. Its like your engine swap though. you're running the stock management right? Several Melbourne based engineers wont touch a car without a stock ecu, requiring all the emissions testing. Others are happy to deal with an aftermarket ecu as long as its "locked" like in the case of Forgs 242.

Spoke to my tyre supplier today and asked about adapters etc, he pulled out a book on Australian codes for tyres, wheels etc. It stated that adaptors and or spacers were illegal unless fitted as factory. When I questioned him on this his answer was if caught the shop would receive a $25000 fine and the person who owns the car a $5000 fine and this was on top of legal and insurance issues. I can find out more information if required

Not relevant to an engineered vehicle and sounds like utter nonsense. But if you can find this Australian code that universally fines people $5,000 for this heinous crime, do let us know.

Will do, I've sited the book today as I was asking the same questions as you regarding tyres and rims. With the 240 options limited unless willing to pay top $$$$$$$

I don't have any questions. I have spoken to engineers, insurers, Vicroads and personally known people with engineered spacers, specific to a wheel/tyre/chassis combination. I am satisfied it is achievable. I don't need to speak to the guy at the tyre shop or read the latest issue of hotrod magazine.
Still interested in your findings if you found something contrary to what I know, but please do me and Ozvolvo a favour by posting your findings in a separate thread. This is my build thread, not the spacer discussion thread.

Have consulted with a a few, but have not committed to any one yet for actual sign off.

My Bro in law consulted one from Geelong who was happy for him to put a red top Toyota motor, WRX driveline, MX 5 suspension in rear, Willwood brakes, Subacute leather heated electric seats, in a Triumph Spitfire.

This was my original Volvo V8. I bought it engineered from Tasmania and had it transferred to Victorian registration. It had a slightly warmed over 350 chev in it and 4spd top loader manual trans. It was a legitimately quick car. Sold it about 12 years ago to a guy here in Victoria, but not sure what happened to it.
I remember meeting the seller where the Spirit of Tasmania docks at about lunchtime on a weekday and driving it down Beach Road for the first time. I booted it in second gear past a pub with tables and chairs out the front and 3 or 4 guys lept out of their chairs and shouted "That was a bloody Volvo!! " Haha was a super fun car. Not sure about the Red grille though!
