We resolved the seized brake at the back, but the blue slip place failed the car.
We unstuck the caliper by using a G clamp to compress it until it came free. It seems to be fine now, but keeping an eye on it.
The reasons cited for failing inspection were:
- Non-functional windscreen wipers
- Cracked wiper blades
- Bad tyres
- Bad torsion arm bushing (we called up and found they meant the panhard rod)
- Seized front calipers
- Bad front brake hoses
The windscreen wipers work fine, but the ignition barrel doesn't set itself right after you start the car. You have to be careful to return the key to the right spot or the electrics won't come on. Hopefully if I just point this out to the guy next time he'll be fine with it.
The tyres we are trying to sort out, but for blue slip we might just use the Geminis from James's 244 which has good tyres. The tread on the tyres is fine, but they are cracking a bit from age, so presumably that's why they're failing.
The torque arm and panhard rod bushings are all being replaced with Superpro bushings
The front calipers don't
seem to be seized, but in any case Mike is going to lend a spare set of hoses and calipers for inspection, and we'll then rebuild the fronts.
